i was just fooling around with google "image" and came across the sistine chapel centerpiece......
kind of got my attention...........
what is going on here? adam appears to be lethargic, laying back, but alive....
.....what is God doing at this point? giving him his spirit?
can't be giving him life itself....he is depicted awake already.........although i heard that's what it is.....
.......how many time have you felt alive, but not quite had the spirit?
.........how many times have you seen folks walk around who seem to have lost their spirit?
...........this is the moment of truth.....
.......moving from lethargy to a sense of life, a sense of God-consciousness.......this is it......
..............have you been there?..................close to getting it, not quite, but God is still reaching out.....

You're basically right I think. The title of the work, "The Creation of Adam," shows God conveying the 'spark of life' into Adam, who whilst 'alive' in one sense, was at the time merely flesh without spirit.
ReplyDeleteThe limpness of Adam's finger you rightly note, is an indication that this transfer of spirit was at God's, not man's, initiative.
Of course, if you're religious, it means something different than if you're not. Even as a non-believer, I can't imagine secular ideas inspiring such beautiful works of art.
